the older i get, the more disappointed in humanity i become.
i just don't understand how people can abandon their own family members.
how people can get some sort of sick pleasure out of others' sufferings.
how people can want to inflict pain and drama.
how people can discourage the ones they supposedly love from succeeding.
i don't understand how people can be so overcome with jealousy that they scapegoat the innocent.
or ignore the people who are trying to reach out to them.
or refuse to let go of the past.
i don't understand why someone would take a family for granted.
something so sacred and beautiful and eternal.
because in the end, what else matters?

but i have to remember that not all people are bad...that amongst the mean, there is so much goodness that is often times overlooked.
like the eighty year old man who stopped in the middle of bp today to pick up a shirt that had fallen off the hanger.
or the slightly crazy woman who has rescued five dogs from shelters and now lovingly pushes them around the mall in the doggie-stroller.
or my mother, who never complains about constantly taking care of six other human beings, rarely stopping to take time for herself. someone who loves her children more than words can express, and never lets them forget it.

be a little bit nicer, please.
